Hartford Chorale Announces New Accompanist

Hartford Chorale is delighted to announce the appointment of Susan Carroll as Accompanist!

An accomplished organist, pianist, and collaborative musician, Susan brings decades of experience working with choral ensembles, schools, universities, churches, and arts organizations throughout New England. She currently serves as Organist and Assistant Music Director at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford and teaches and accompanies the choral and musical theater programs at Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford. Susan holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory.

Susan is no stranger to Hartford Chorale, having joined the ensemble as a guest organist for the spring Requiem Aeternam concert.

“I am thrilled to be joining Hartford Chorale as accompanist. Having had the opportunity to work with the Chorale as a guest organist, I already know what a remarkable community of musicians this is. Collaborative music-making has always been at the heart of what I love most about my work, and I look forward to making music with the Chorale’s singers and artistic team and becoming part of this wonderful musical community.”

“Finding the right musician to step into this role following James Barry’s extraordinary 31-year tenure was incredibly important to us,” said Hartford Chorale Executive Director Sarah Armstrong. “From the beginning, Susan stood out not only as an exceptional musician, but as someone who understands the joy and connection at the heart of making music together. She brings tremendous experience, warmth, and a true spirit of collaboration to this role. As we begin Hartford Chorale’s 55th season, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Susan to the Hartford Chorale family.”

Susan’s career reflects a remarkable breadth of musical experience, from solo organ performance and musical theater to collaborations with professional, university, church, and community choruses. Throughout that work, she has maintained a deep commitment to the power of music to connect people—a commitment that makes her a wonderful fit for Hartford Chorale.

Her appointment comes as Hartford Chorale begins its 55th season, continuing more than five decades of bringing extraordinary choral music to audiences throughout Greater Hartford and beyond. We can think of no better way to begin this milestone season than by welcoming Susan to the Hartford Chorale family.
