Message to Membership – January 13, 2022

From the Music Director …

Dear Hartford Chorale,

It is encouraging to have interest being expressed by a number of singers who would like to join our ranks. As a matter of health safety, these auditions are being held in an online process rather than in person. In an ingenious fashion, Steve Cottle, auditions administrator, Catherine Little, co-webmaster, Jack Pott, media coordinator, and Jim Barry, accompanist, have created a user-friendly approach, and already applications are coming in. Do encourage your friends, family, colleagues, students, and associates to consider this new approach to Chorale membership. There is much to look forward to.

All best,

Rick

From the Board President …

Dear Hartford Chorale,

As you can see from the Maestro’s note, the auditions cycle has begun. We have shifted to a virtual format thanks to a mighty team. Please join me in thanking them for being able to make this happen seamlessly coordinating entirely via email. It was no small task. We have quite a few signups already, but please do continue to recruit your best and brightest.

The work of the Chorale continues in full swing. Currently, our attention is on reopening with preparation and peace of mind like no other. Please stay on the alert for guidance on the latest protocols in this ever-changing environment. I thank you all for your flexibility and good cheer.

I hope you are all staying warm and comfortable. Until I write to you again, have a wonderful week and weekend.

Lalitha

Nathaniel Gumbs, organist

January 30th, 2022, 4:00 pm

(Snow Date: February 6th, 2022, 4:00 pm)

90 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051

This year, The Music Series at South Church is featuring “Connecticut Center Stage” – artists based in Connecticut. Our first offering of 2022 is Nathaniel Gumbs, organist. Nathaniel has excited and delighted audiences throughout the United States and abroad, and currently serves as Director of Chapel Music at Yale University. Mr. Gumbs works with students, faculty, and guests to coordinate music for three worshipping communities: the University Church in Battell Chapel, and at Yale Divinity School in both Marquand Chapel and at Berkeley Divinity School. Gumbs earned his undergraduate degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, his Master of Music degree from Yale University, and he is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York.

We are delighted to present Nathaniel on The Music Series – he is a stunning example of the masterful artistry that can be found right here in Connecticut. Ring in the New Year with Nathaniel’s superb playing and The Music Series!

This is not a ticketed event – there will be a free-will offering.
