Message to Membership – March 17, 2022

From the Music Director

Dear Hartford Chorale,

What a joy to be present for the big buzz that was in our beloved rehearsal space on Monday evening. The presence of so many of you was a strong signal of how much you want the Chorale to hit the ground “running” on April 4.  I thank Jack for his marvelous preparation and presentation. It is encouraging to know that two more sessions lie ahead.

Here’s an important item for you as you prepare the Perkins piece.  The MP4 recordings (that is, the ones with vocal part highlighted) have errors in the closing portion of the first movement (starting at meas. 64 for women and meas. 58 for men). There is also an error for the men at the end of the fourth movement, beginning at meas.54.  We await revisions of these two movements from Scott Perkins, and we regret this inconvenience.  Please be reminded that our first rehearsal (April 4) includes the concert’s opening piece, “I’m Going to Sing,” the Vaughan Williams “Serenade to Music,” and Ed Tyler’s “How Can I Keep from Singing.”

All best,

Rick.

From the Board President …

Dear Hartford Chorale,

It was so nice to see so many of you in-person on Monday. It was wonderful being back in our beloved rehearsal space. The work on our concert is in full swing, and we’re working hard on filling the house. May-20 will be here before we know it, and in that regard please note the following miscellaneous points.

  1. Please tell everyone you know to come to our concert. Our ticket link can be found here.
  2. Concert attire for new members (women) – the link to purchasing our concert attire can be found here. Also, our wonderful costumer, Mary Ann Haar is available to answer all your questions. Please contact her at laylockcottage@gmail.com.
  3. Our members-only website password is, Chorale21

Finally, our wonderful Operations Manager is away this week, and I am sending you this message from the office computer. I’m not going to ask you to send me an email if you didn’t receive this message. However, I will say that if you know of a member who didn’t receive this week’s message, please forward this email to them. Lisa will be back next week and all will return to normal!

Until then, have a wonderful week and weekend!

Lalitha.

From the Marketing Committee …

From the Marketing Committee:

Now that we have begun to rediscover our voices, it is time to pack The Bushnell’s Mortenson Hall! There are about 2,800 seats and we would like to fill all of them.

To ensure maximum ticket sales and attendance, we need your help. What I’m asking from you is multi-faceted:

  1. Please complete this group sales form with the names and contact information of groups (Senior Living Communities, Performance Arts schools, Church Choirs, Social groups or Clubs, etc.) that would be interested in purchasing tickets using our Group Sales discounts.

Group Sales discounts are:

      • 10 – 24 tickets receive a 15% discount
      • 25 or more tickets receive a 25% discount

ž Group tickets do not need to be purchased in a single section of Mortenson Hall, but Group Sales tickets do need to ordered at the same time in order to receive the discount.

  1. Use this media contacts link to introduce us to radio and TV contacts you know so that we can arrange for coverage and interviews for Rick and Scott.
  2. Send us the name and contact information of any local newspapers in your area so we can provide them press announcements.

Finally, we need to sell ads for our program book. The sales form is attached to this email. I will be reaching out to the Chorale members who sold ads for our prior self-produced concerts so that they can offer the historic rate to their previous ad customer. #keepthesongstrong

Thank you for your commitment to Hartford Chorale!

From the Assistant Music Director …

Dear Choir, how exciting it was to have over 30 of you in person at Saint James this past Monday night for the first of three vocal workshops, as well as an equal amount tuning in virtually on zoom! While these workshops do not cover any of the music for our upcoming concert, I hope that each of you will take something from them that will allow you to be a better singer moving forward.

Jack Anthony Pott

Assistant Music Director & Media Coordinator

Hartford Chorale

Here is the link for Vocal Workshop #2 on Monday, March 21st, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. As a reminder, these one-hour sessions can be attended in-person (masked) at St. James OR virtual via Zoom (link below). We will focus on all aspects of the instrument (posture, breathing, technique). If you are attending in-person there is nothing you need to bring, except yourselves, a mask you feel comfortable singing in, and willing spirit. See you soon!

Hartford Chorale is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

From our Friends …

The Music Series at South Church presents Kara Quartet on Sunday, March 20th, at 4:00 pm. Kara Quartet is a dynamic new string ensemble consisting of some of Connecticut’s finest musicians. Founded in 2017, they created their own concert series and performed to delighted audiences. In 2018, Kara made their Hartford debut at Infinity Hall. After a year of cancelled performances, the members are overjoyed to be playing together again and we are certainly thrilled to have them making their debut with The Music Series. Kara Quartet is a Connecticut gem you won’t want to miss!
