Community

Approximately 6,000 audience members attend Hartford Chorale performances each season in concert halls and churches throughout Connecticut. Potential members are introduced to the Chorale through open rehearsals, and public “conclaves” provide community enrichment and educational experiences.

We encourage high school and college students to join our intern program – a unique offering with scholarship opportunities.

The Chorale participates in benefit concerts and local festivals – most recently as a part of  Make Music Hartford. In June of 2019 the Hartford Courant included a headline -‘Sounds of summer: Hartford’s Make Music 2019 had the city singing’. Hartford Chorale led the community in the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth – Ode to Joy at St. Patrick St Anthony Church in downtown Hartford.
A highlight of the Chorale’s singing experience is our international tours program, extending our community outreach across the globe.

We have a long history of partnership in the Greater Hartford community, participating in First Night Hartford Events, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and various Greater Hartford Arts Council events. We seek out opportunities to include local choruses to join us in performance, including the Church Street Singers, Farmington High School, Manchester High School, Connecticut Children’s Chorus, and more. We provide free and student-priced tickets for community members to attend our events.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chorale members branched out into the community to provide PPE to healthcare workers and hospitals. We transformed our choral art into virtual performances, accessible to all and free of charge for all to enjoy.
