Message from the Music Director

Dear Chorale,

Our second Fauré rehearsal has kept us on pace with these wonderful works, and we have now covered all the music for the concert at least once. The first pass through all of it has already yielded wonderful results, and as you could hear with movements 1 & 2, there is so much beauty to be found in those pages once we know what is happening. I encourage you to continue your own study of the notes and rhythms so that our time together can be maximized. I look forward to hearing your French this coming week!

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of seeing our Music Director Emeritus, Richard Coffey, for CONCORA’s 50th anniversary concert/celebration, a group that he founded in 1974. It is so wonderful to still see and hear his influence throughout the CT choral landscape.

I know Lalitha is talking more about this, but I was saddened to hear of former Chorale singer, Barbara Dutton’s passing. I did not know her well, but I remember her presence and extend my condolences to her family.

UK TOUR ’25 – A huge thank you to those who have already registered. As I said this past Monday, for those of you still on the fence, please don’t hesitate to talk to me or others on the tour committee – we would love to answer your questions, and have you sign up! Fun Tour Fact (FTF) for today – at the end of tour there is a parody song put together by yours truly and presented to everyone at the final dinner. The text is drawn from all of our experiences together over the trip – it is NOT TO BE MISSED!

Message from the President

Dear Hartford Chorale,

The board is entering a wonderfully busy time! We are preparing for Fauré, golf and tour. Additionally, we are finalizing the new slate of board of governors and our strategic plan. All very exciting!

On the immediate horizon is the signing of the tour contract with ACFEA. The tour committee is hard at work recruiting our minimum, and at this time, we are almost 50% of the way there. Thank you to all who signed up! If the experience of touring is a part of your choral identity, please don’t wait to sign up. We have an excellent tour provider who will need the time to secure the best of venues. Having watched the committee at work, I will tell you that every minute detail is ironed out to provide you with the best experience. This is why we have so many repeat tour goers who cannot wait to travel again as soon as the previous one is completed. Many thanks to the tour committee led by Dawn Bauer for their tireless work. Let’s sing!

Lalitha

Member news – Barbara Dutton

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our dear friend, Barbara Dutton. Barbara was a longtime member of the Alto 1 section, joining the Chorale in 1993. Her final concert with us was Christmas in the Americas in 2019. I remember her good cheer and pleasant demeanor. She truly loved singing, and the Alto 1 section remembers her time with us with great fondness.

Details of her Memorial Service may be found here.

Message from the Development Committee

Friends, our hardworking Development Committee and several volunteers have done outstanding work to keep the ‘fun’ in fundraising with events like the Hartford Chorale Golf Classic, “Mingle with the Maestro,” and wine tastings at the Governor’s Mansion while raising critical revenue to keep the song strong. As we make plans for future fundraising events, we want to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to complete our online survey below before May 1st. You are also welcome to speak to Joan Hultquist (jbhultquist@comcast.net) or Susan Orred (srorred@gmail.com) any time. Thank you for all you do for the Chorale and we look forward to hearing from you!

Message from the Membership Committee

Calling all interested in helping manage our member database!

Membership is looking for two volunteers to help maintain and update our member database maintained on Microsoft Access. Volunteers will assist in updating membership data records, creating up-to-date membership lists, and developing the seating plans for rehearsals/concerts. Knowledge of Microsoft Access not required, as training will be provided. If this is something that interests you, please contact Emily at admin@hartfordchorale.org or Steve Cottle at membership@hartfordchorale.org.
