From the Music Director …

Dear Hartford Chorale,

With our four “run-up” rehearsals now behind us and three vocal workshops in the offing, we are definitely on our way to the Promised Land of making live music together. I am grateful for all of the intense labor and diligence that have brought us to this happy place, after our two years of exile. I am also grateful for the large numbers who attended the four preliminary sessions and the privilege of bearing witness to the eagerness and pleasure that revealed itself in your faces and your comments. On Monday, March 14, our first of three vocal sessions begin with Jack Pott in charge, these at St. James’s Church, and running for one hour each, beginning at 7:00 p.m. With eyes and ears focused on our first return to rehearsal normality on April 4, I encourage everyone to dig deeply and fully into the scores you now have at hand, with access to an extraordinary treasure-trove of support materials, including the edit masters, on the members page of our website. Attached is a list of those aids for you to use as a “check off” as to what you have studied and mastered. Knowing that tickets are now on sale through the Bushnell is such a boon and boost to the spirit. Now all of us have the opportunity to help fill Mortensen Hall for our May 20 concert, a time of triumph and celebration.

All best,

Rick

From the Board President …

Dear Hartford Chorale,

I cannot wait for Monday when we are all together in-person again for our first of three vocal workshops let by Jack Pott. I am also looking forward to meeting our new members.

The Board and all our committees are excitedly working on various aspects of the 50th concert. On Monday, Joanne Huelsman led a very upbeat production task force meeting. The Commission Committee led by Dr. Rick Wilson has wonderful plans that will really help us enjoy the Perkins experience. Marketing is in full swing and is looking to fill the house. Please make special note of Fred Baker’s message below. This is our beloved Maestro’s last concert with us, and we can all help fill the house!

Until I see you on Monday, have a wonderful week and weekend!

Lalitha

From the Marketing Committee …

Help us pack the house! The Mortenson has about 2,800 seats, so there is plenty of room for your family and friends.

To ensure maximum ticket sales and attendance, we need your help. What I’m asking from you is multi-faceted:

  1. Please complete this group sales form with the names and contact information of groups (Senior Living Communities, Performance Arts schools, Church Choirs, Social groups or Clubs, etc.) that would be interested in purchasing tickets using our Group Sales discounts.

ž Group Sales discounts are:

    • 10 – 24 tickets receive a 15% discount
    • 25 or more tickets receive a 25% discount

ž Group tickets do not need to be purchased in a single section of Mortenson Hall, but Group Sales tickets do need to ordered at the same time in order to receive the discount.

  1. Use this media contacts link to introduce us to radio and TV contacts you know so that we can arrange for coverage and interviews for Rick and Scott.
  2. Send us the name and contact information of any local newspapers in your area so we can provide them press announcements.

Finally, we need to sell ads for our program book. The sales form is attached to this email. I will be reaching out to the Chorale members who sold ads for our prior self-produced concerts so that they can offer the historic rate to their previous ad customer. #keepthesongstrong

Thank you for your commitment to Hartford Chorale!

From the Assistant Music Director …

After four invigorating sessions on the music for our 50th Anniversary concert, it is time for us to get our voices ready to make music! I am so excited to work with all those who are able to be a part of our upcoming vocal workshops for the next three Monday nights. These one-hour sessions can be attended in-person (masked) at St. James OR virtual via Zoom (link below). We will focus on all aspects of the instrument (posture, breathing, technique). If you are attending in-person there is nothing you need to bring, except yourselves, a mask you feel comfortable singing in, and willing spirit. See you soon!

Hartford Chorale is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

From our Friends …

The Music Series at South Church presents Kara Quartet on Sunday, March 20th, at 4:00 pm. Kara Quartet is a dynamic new string ensemble consisting of some of Connecticut’s finest musicians. Founded in 2017, they created their own concert series and performed to delighted audiences. In 2018, Kara made their Hartford debut at Infinity Hall. After a year of cancelled performances, the members are overjoyed to be playing together again and we are certainly thrilled to have them making their debut with The Music Series. Kara Quartet is a Connecticut gem you won’t want to miss!
